Community Outreach & Service
At Christ Woodland United Methodist Church in Akron, Ohio, we follow the example of Jesus Christ by serving others in our local community. Just as Jesus reached beyond His disciples to care for those in need, we are committed to extending compassion, support, and practical help throughout the area. We are committed to serving our neighbors, strengthening our community, and meeting real needs.
Weekly Food Assistance for Families in Need
Each week, our church hosts a community food pantry open to anyone experiencing food insecurity in Akron and surrounding neighborhoods.
Visitors can select food items sourced from the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and generous donations from the community.
In 2025 alone, the pantry provided:

Nearly 110,000 pounds of food distributed

Support for more than 8,100 visits (including repeat individuals)
We welcome anyone in need of food assistance—no questions asked.
Case Community Learning Center Partnership
We actively support Case Community Learning Center, an Akron Public Schools elementary school near our church.
Throughout the school year, we donate essential classroom supplies, including:

Crayons and markers

Tissues
-
Disinfecting wipes

Other learning materials
This helps support teachers and students in our local Akron school community.
Recovery & Support Group Meetings
Christ Woodland UMC provides a safe and welcoming space for community healing and recovery.
Our facility hosts weekly meetings for:

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA)
These gatherings support individuals and families on their journey toward recovery and wellness.
Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Each year, we host a free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on the evening before Thanksgiving Day. Meals featuring turkey and traditional sides are prepared “to go” and distributed drive-through style, ensuring accessibility for everyone in the Akron community—even those without transportation.
Serving Our Community in Multiple Ways
In addition to our food and outreach ministries, our church also serves as a community resource by hosting:

International Baccalaureate (IB) exams for Firestone Community Learning Center students
